Bio
Born in 1950 and raised in Arkansas City, Kansas, Ledeker developed a deep reverence for the prairie. In summer, her family vacationed in the Rocky Mountains where she also forged a life-long love for the magnificent San Juans and Rio Grande River Valley. Her passion for nature and the outdoors is a major influence in her art making. She is equally inspired by music, literature and the mysteries of human behavior.
In 1974, Ledeker graduated from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, with a degree in K-12 Art Education. She subsequently taught art in the public schools of Meade and El Dorado, Kansas, before moving to Lawrence, Kansas. It was there, in 1984, that she founded her own full-time free-lance art business. From 2001 to 2015, she worked fulltime as Art Director and Teaching Artist for Van Go, Inc., Lawrence, Kansas.
Ledeker is a painter, illustrator, calligrapher and art educator. In addition to producing award winning commercial and personal artwork, she has been a Kansas Artist in Residence and instructor of numerous national adult art workshops in painting, illumination and calligraphy. Ledeker believes that everyone is innately creative and with acceptance, encouragement and opportunity, will find a path to express that unique creativity.
Since retirement in 2015, Ledeker has focused primarily on personal and studio work. In 2018, she opened BONEYARD Studio & Gallery in Creede, Colorado, where she is owner and proprietor. Ledeker’s work is included in many public and private collections nationally and internationally. She has participated in numerous juried group and invitational shows and has been featured in 35 solo exhibitions.
